The Rollover

After being frustrated for well over a month now that she couldn’t roll over from her back to her belly, Emma has finally mastered the art of The Rollover™. Well, ok. Maybe she hasn’t “mastered” it yet. But as she shows in the video below, it’s now a simple maneuver for her. In fact, she’s rolling over onto her belly almost every time we lay her down on her back now.

She hasn’t rolled over in her crib yet. But we’re not going to be surprised if we walk in one morning and find her already on her belly.

First attempt at solid food

Today, we tried to feed Emma her first solid food: rice cereal. Not really a solid food, I know. But it’s not just milk either. There was one big problem: she didn’t know what to do with it. As Cam and I each took turns holding the spoon up to her mouth, she’d stick her tongue out to push it way. Or she would turn her head away after she learned what was coming. I don’t think any cereal actually got into her mouth. Most of it went down her chin. I think we’ll be working on solids for a while.

5 months and counting

5 monthsEmma is five months old, and has officially passed 14 pounds in weight! Like all other months so far, she was just as amazing this month. We constantly wonder how she can go from one stage to the next so quickly. This month gave us a big gift. More sleep! We no longer wake to feed her every two hours. There were several nights where Doug and I woke up scratching our heads, truly amazed she slept for so long. continued ›

Look who’s talking now (4 months)

Emma is now four months old, and all I can say is GRRRRRRRR. Yep, she found her voice and loves to talk to her toys… or just about anything or anyone else who will listen. She definitely has a captive audience with us–we never get sick of hearing her growling noises followed by big grins and giggles.4 months continued ›

Two and a half weeks

Emma will be three weeks old on Monday. These last few weeks have been full of emotion, surprises, and absolutely no sleep. We couldn’t be happier with our little girl, even with the challenges that have come our way. I know we should be getting rest when she sleeps, but we spend most of our time just staring at her. continued ›

No more waiting, Emma Bowman is here. I had the most unbelievable labor story. And I love telling it. continued ›

Announcing Emma Maxine Bowman

Born Monday, August 11, 2008 (almost two weeks early) at 7:55am. At birth, Emma was 6 pounds, 6 ounces, and 18 inches short. And we’re already overwhelmed with love for her.

Waiting game

Cam reached the 37-week mark of her pregnancy today. Only three more weeks to go, give or take 2-3 weeks of unpredictability. Wait?! Did I just say possibly three weeks of unpredictability? Three minus three equals zero, which means, technically, Cam could go into labor any day now. Oh, boy (for us, it’ll actually be oh, girl!)… continued ›
