Emma at 10 months

Wow. 10 months down. It won’t be long until Emma is a year old. The past month has gone by fast. We’ve gotten a little behind in posting photos to Flickr, and the last 9-month post was written way too late. So Cam is forcing me to stop other tasks to make sure we get this one written and published as close as possible to Emma’s birthday.

Emma turns 9 months old

Emma turned 9 months old this week. We had a lot of activity this month. We had our first visit to the ER, took a trip to the zoo, Grandma Thelma came to visit, and we celebrated my first Mother’s Day.

Emma hasn’t even had a cold yet, but here we are one night, going the ER at 2:00am. It turns out Emma had picked up “Hand, Foot, and Mouth” disease. This is very common in small children, but it’s tough to see our little girl so miserable. We had to stay home for several days until we knew she was no longer contagious. She is definitely an outdoors girl, so it was hard to keep her housebound. continued ›

End-of-day voice

Cam captures Emma’s end-of-day voice. Spoiler: lots of grunting. But very cute, regardless.

7 months old

Happy Birthday, Emma!

7 months

Today Emma turned seven months old. We have now mastered eating. Or at least, Emma thinks she has. She’s eating three meals a day just like we are. She gets fruit and cereal in the mornings, fruit and veggies for lunch, and two veggies for dinner. Along with each meal she also gets Cherios! Her new favorite word to hear. It’s kinda funny to see her watch us walk over to the cupbord with the cereal. She knows exactly what’s in there. Reminds me of Jackson when he was a puppy. continued ›

Swinging in the Park

Emma's first time on the swing

This month is bringing lots of new fun. We have had rain for the last two weeks and I have been waiting for the sun to break through so we could go to the park. We have a great little community park right outside our front door and it’s been calling us to play.

Yesterday was a beautiful day and Emma and I were able to go to the park. We finally got to try the swings for the first time. Emma loved it. It was so much fun watching her kick her little feet and squeal with delight. At first she wasn’t so sure. But after a while, she couldn’t get enough.

The rain has returned for another week. But you can bet we will be back to the park on the next sunny day!

We have a jumper!

The first few weeks with her new exercise jumper, Emma wasn’t sure what to make of it. She would grab some of the toys, teethe them a little, and entertain herself for about five minutes, tops. In fact, the first time we put her in this thing, she could barely reach the floor, even though we had it set on the lowest position, closest to floor.

As of this week, she discovered the true purpose of this massive device that takes up so much of our free living room space: playing with the toys and, at the same time, jumping!

6-month birthday

Here’s the birthday girl:

6 months old

We can’t believe Emma is six months old already. Cam would tell you some of the days have gone by so slowly. But overall, six months have flown by. Since our 5-month post, she’s changed before our very eyes. A month ago, she couldn’t roll over. Now, rolling over onto her belly is a piece of cake. Cam even claims she’s already rolled from her belly to her back. But I didn’t see it, and Cam didn’t catch it on video, so I don’t believe it yet. continued ›

The Great Nap Protest

Cam tried to let Emma take a nap in her crib today, just like she’s done on other days. But naps in the crib just aren’t happening. Emma likes to roll over too much from her back to her tummy. And as you can see here, she’s getting quite good at it. But she can’t roll from her tummy to her back yet. Once she’s on her tummy, she’s not always comfortable. So the rollover usually ends in crying or screaming until we get her on her back again. Then the whole cycle repeats. Over and over. And over. And over. Good thing she’s cute, right?

(Oh, and did we mention she’s learning to make interesting sounds by blowing through pursed lips? You’ll see and hear those in the video too.)

Sweet Potatoes for our Sweet Potato

Emma is eating like a champ! We’ve been giving her rice cereal for about two weeks now, and wanted to try something new. At the beginning of the week, I made a batch of pureed sweet potatoes for her to try. She loves it! Today was her third day eating sweet potatoes, and she ate every last bit.

Now we just have to decide what to try next. Apples? or Doug’s favorite, avocado!

After 1 week of eating rice cereal

My, how much better we’ve gotten at eating our cereal. The tongue reflex is starting to disappear, and she’s starting to lean forward, anticipating the spoon in her mouth. Rice cereal is going well; banana, not so much.
