Our ceremony took place in the evening, so we recommended staying that night in San Francisco. We requested several blocks of rooms be set aside at four different hotels around the City specifically for our wedding guests. We picked these hotels because they seemed to be a good fit for our family and friends. Some are closer to the Presidio than others.
The reasonable rates (for San Francisco) listed below were guaranteed for our guests. All they had to do was mention the Bowman wedding when making their reservation. Even though we had rooms set aside, unreserved rooms were released to the public about six weeks before the wedding. Hotels in San Francisco fill up quickly during Summer months.
Those driving a car to San Francisco, (whether it be your own, or a rental from the airport) be prepared for one-way streets, steep hills, and expensive overnight parking fees. We’re talking $25-40 per night at most downtown garages. A couple of the hotels listed below include free parking, and we tried to include that in the hotel’s description if that’s the case.
Hotel Bijou
Film buffs would fall in love with this place. Hotel Bijou is inspired by San Francisco’s rich cinematic history–each guestroom is named for a motion picture that was shot in San Francisco. The Bijou has movie palace stylings, dramatic Hollywood portraits, and a mini-movie theater in the lobby. A double feature of San Francisco-based films is screened each evening in the Petit Theatre Bijou for free. This hotel is right off Market Street, just across from the San Francisco Shopping Centre, and only one block away from the Cable Car Turnaround at Powell and Market Streets.

The Maxwell Hotel
The Maxwell Hotel is located in the heart of the theater district just one block from Union Square. If you’re coming for a long weekend, this might be ideal. We love the energy of Union Square and all it has to offer. With San Francisco’s famous Cable Cars just one block away, you are minutes from Fisherman’s Warf, Chinatown, and North Beach. The Maxwell offers complimentary coffee, tea, and newspaper in the lobby each morning. If you stay here, Cam strongly recommends Sears Fine Food (439 Powell Street) for breakfast. Her favorite dish is the 18 Swedish Pancakes for $5.50.

Hotel Del Sol
We personally love this hotel even though it may not be the place for everyone. The Hotel Del Sol is very colorful, with a well-kept 50s-style beach-themed motor lodge feel to it. It’s ideal for guests with families since they have a family suite featuring bunk beds, games, toys, and kid-friendly furnishings. Not to mention the free kites, sunglasses, and beach balls. Continental breakfast and free on-site parking make this hotel a City steal!

The Laurel Inn
The Laurel Inn is very charming. It’s located in the residential neighborhood of Pacific Heights where we would love to live if we had a million dollars. (Well, okay, it might take ten million to live in this neighborhood!) You can visit Danielle Steel’s house, and lots of other mansions, foreign embassies, and consulates while you stroll around the neighborhood. The Laurel Hotel will spoil you. They offer complimentary continental breakfast, and afternoon lemonade and cookies in the lobby. They also have free indoor parking. For animal lovers, this place is pet friendly to boot.
