About this site

All about this thing in front of you, and why you want to will your mansion in the hills to Doug and Cam.

This is the personal site of Doug Bowman and Cam Bowman. We created this site, publish to it, and maintain it primarily for our friends and family. But also for anyone else who wants to follow along. As the Home page states, this site is a place for us to “record our thoughts about life, books we read, restaurants and movies we enjoy, and anything else we want to remember.” We continually see, experience, and think things we want to write down and record, so we don’t forget them. This is where we do that.

How this site is organized

The Home page contains excerpts from the last five journal entries we’ve written, along with titles and dates of a few more entries toward the bottom. It also displays the last few photos from Doug’s Flickr account, the last three of Cam’s reviews on Yelp, and the most recent Twitters for both Doug and Cam.

Our Journal contains all of the entries we’ve written from before our wedding up until now. You can either browse back through entries one at a time from the main Journal page. Or, by using the links running down the side, you can filter entries by who wrote them, by category, and by month & year in which entries were written. If you’re not familiar with blogs, note that each entry usually continues on another page with the full text of that entry. Sometimes, we open entries for comments by readers like you. For open entries, feel free to add a comment if you have extra information or a response to share with us and everyone who visits the site.

Our Photos page is still under construction. When complete, Doug intends to have it display our sets of photos hosted on Flickr.com.

In addition to the page you’re reading now, this About section also has specifics about the inner-workings of this site’s design and where it is hosted. On the personal side, it also contains more information specifically about us. It is also the new location for many of the original pages about our wedding. Not only do we want our own access to those pages at any time. But those pages may be interesting to other people planning a wedding, especially if they plan to have it in the same location we did.

Finally, the Contact page is where you send us your next big idea that will make us billions of dollars. It’s also the place to send either (or both) of us a quick message. Stay in touch.

History of this site

We originally created this site to communicate details about our wedding to our guests. The website pages were managed with Movable Type publishing software. That first version of our site had all kinds of information about our wedding and its location (The Presidio in San Francisco). We also maintained a small News section, where we posted infrequent updates. The site also hosted a set of photo galleries where we shared personal photographs, mainly of our travels and the places we went together. The gallery pages used photo gallery templates for Movable Type that Doug designed and made publicly available. Although our personal photos are now on Flickr, you can still see an example of Doug’s original photo gallery on another site of his.
